Beginning in January 2023, the Standard Occupational Classification (SOC) code for each employee will be reported to the Employment Security Department (ESD) as part of the state’s quarterly reporting requirements for unemployment insurance. To satisfy this new reporting requirement, a new infotype, called WC State, Code, Attribute, has been activated containing the SOC field.
OFM State Human Resources has identified initial SOC code assignments for most positions and OFM ITS will run a Winshuttle script to populate those SOC values. OFM is currently finalizing the Winshuttle script to complete with action and it will be updated by January 25, 2023.
Establishment of the SOC in HRMS for implementation was coordinated by State HR. Business process and guidance for ongoing maintenance of SOC codes will be sent out separately by State HR.
Use the new WC State, Code, Attribute WC State Code Attribute user procedures to create or maintain SOC code changes. The Position Create Position - Create New Position user procedure has been updated to include the new WC State, Code, Attribute (1613) infotype in the create position action.
Reporting the SOC code of each worker to ESD is mandatory. An employer whose filing is incomplete due to failing to include SOC codes may be subject to penalty. The ESD, in coordination with the Workforce Board, will use this data to report to the Legislature and the Governor on how the collection of occupational data was used to evaluate educational investments, add, or modify existing training programs, or improve job placement.
